Uses of Relitch Rectal Ointment

Discomfort, pain, itchiness, or irritation around the anus, and hemorrhoids (piles). 

How does

• Betamethasone: Corticosteroid with primarily glucocorticoid activity. Controls inflammation by regulating protein synthesis, reducing leukocyte migration, and stabilizing capillary permeability.
• Lidocaine: Amide-type local anesthetic. Blocks nerve impulse conduction by inhibiting sodium ion flux across neuronal membranes.
• Phenylephrine: Alpha-adrenergic agonist. Causes localized vasoconstriction and reduces inflammation.

Side Effects of Relitch Rectal Ointment

• Systemic absorption with prolonged use, especially in children
• Local atrophic changes in the skin with prolonged and intensive treatment
• Pigmentation changes and hypertrichosis with topical use
• A burning sensation upon application, especially if the mucous membrane is not intact

• Betamethasone + Phenylephrine + Lignocaine is used to relieve pain, inflammation, and itching associated with piles.
• Do not use it on damaged or infected areas of skin.
• Stop using Betamethasone + Phenylephrine + Lignocaine and inform your doctor if you experience any bleeding from the back passage or irritation at the application site.
• Use it as per the dose and duration advised by your doctor. Overuse may result in increased side effects.

Indications of Relitch Rectal Ointment

Phenylephrine+Beclometasone+Lidocaine is used in the treatment of piles.

Pharmacology

Betamethasone: A corticosteroid with primarily glucocorticoid activity. It inhibits the release of inflammatory mediators by inducing phospholipase A2 inhibitory lipase (lipocortins), thereby reducing inflammation.

Phenylephrine: A sympathomimetic agent that primarily affects alpha-adrenergic receptors, causing vasoconstriction of arterioles in the nasal mucosa, conjunctiva, and body, which reduces inflammation locally.

Lidocaine: Alters signal conduction in neurons by blocking fast voltage-gated Na+ channels, resulting in the inhibition of pain transmission.

Dosage & Administration of Relitch Rectal Ointment

Adult Dose: Apply to the perianal region or rectally. May apply up to 2-4 times/day, especially at night, in the morning, or after a bowel movement that may exacerbate hemorrhoid(s).

Contraindications

• Viral skin lesions (e.g., herpes simplex, vaccinia)
• Bacterial skin lesions (e.g., impetigo)
• Fungal skin lesions (e.g., candidiasis, tinea)
• Tuberculous infection of the anal region
• Sensitivity to any component of the product
• Dermatoses in children under 1 year of age

Pregnancy & Lactation

The safe use of topical corticosteroids in human pregnancy has not been fully established. Avoid unnecessary use in large amounts or for prolonged periods.

Precautions & Warnings

• Uncontrolled diabetes, peptic ulcer, osteoporosis, psychosis, psychoneurosis, pregnancy, and lactation.
• Congestive heart failure, hypertension, epilepsy, chronic renal failure, elderly patients, regular monitoring for long-term therapy, gradual withdrawal, glaucoma, hypothyroidism, cirrhosis, ocular herpes simplex, ulcerative colitis, infants, and children.

Avoid long-term continuous treatment. Discontinue if sensitization occurs.
